Rules
- All panel proposals must be submitted via the online form.
- All panels should have at least two and not more than four convenors, representing at least two different institutions. We strongly encourage collaborative panels with colleagues based on the continent. Though this has no impact on the selection, we would already encourage the convenors based at European institutions to think creatively about how they might mobilise funds (their own grants, e.g.) to make travel possible, given that the conference will only have limited funds for travel grants.
- The convenor who submits the panel proposal is considered the corresponding convenor responsible for further communication regarding the submission and reviewing process and the organization of the panel.
- While the conference will be held in a hybrid format, at least one convenor per panel is required to attend on-site.
- One or more chairs can be specified among the convenors (click the screen icon next to the convenor’s name).
- It will be possible to add one discussant per accepted panel at a later stage.
- Every role only once: participants may only co-convene one panel. In addition, they may act as presenter in another panel and/or discussant in another panel/roundtable.
- While adherence to the conference theme is not the main criteria for panel selection, we encourage conveners to make an effort to address the questions and ideas outlined in the theme description and indicate which thematic stream their proposal falls under.
- All accepted panels are required to be open to paper proposals through the website: panels may not be organized as ‘closed’ sessions.
- Panels may run for one or two sessions of 90 minutes with a maximum of four papers per session. We can exceptionally accept single panels with five papers, but as we want to provide adequate space for discussion, we strongly recommend four.
Special formats
In addition to traditional panels with up to four paper presentations per 90-minute session, we accept proposals for roundtable sessions and workshops.
Roundtables
A group of four to six speakers discusses themes/issues of general scholarly interest for the duration of a single 90-minute session. While a roundtable can include short contributions (max 5 minutes each), the aim is to create a lively debate, first among the speakers and subsequently with the involvement of the audience. If you choose to propose a roundtable session, you may list up to six possible speakers.
Workshops
Workshops are conceptualized as practical events containing collective research activities, guided interactions and free-format exchanges leading to specific public outputs. A workshop may run for up to two 90-minute sessions. They may include elements of performance, various collective activities, exhibitions, or interactive media displays. If you choose to propose a workshop, you are required to specify the maximum number of participants as well as practical requirements regarding space and infrastructure
